Over forty-five years prior to 2023, an interior village native named Jonah was breaking winter trail with his six-dog sled team to transport supplies between a major hub and his 100-occupant home community. Armed with a moose rifle, Jonah spent hours packing the deep snow across flat muskeg segments that led into thick timber valleys. As his team negotiated a sharp 'dog-leg' curve on the packed trail, an immense, 350-to-400-pound dead beetle-killed spruce tree was violently hurled down onto the path directly out of the overhanging brush. The heavy timber crushed Jonah's lead dog instantly into the snowpack, forming an immovable anchor that caused the trailing team to panic and soil themselves.
Jonah ran forward and spotted a massive dark figure shifting behind the brush 20 yards away; he fired two rapid shots, which were met by blood-chilling screams from the thicket. Overwhelmed by a suffocating, oppressive air pocket that induced violent vomiting, Jonah cut the lead lines, wrapped his deceased companion of nine years in a utility canvas tarp, and loaded the body onto the sled. Coaxing the terrified dogs forward into an alpenglow twilight, he encountered the giant form moving parallel through the black spruce line 60 yards out. Halting on a flat slough to untangle the leads, Jonah was hit by a deafening shriek that felt as if the entity was standing directly over his head, inducing a second bout of stress-vomiting.
Sprinting the last 150 yards of the tree cover, Jonah looked back to find the 10-foot-tall, light-gray-skinned entity running just 25 feet behind his sled chassis, executing an immense, wide malevolent grin. The wrinkled, flat-nosed entity pursued them to the tundra margin before Jonah broke bounds, spinning back from a 200-yard distance to fire a final unsuccessful rifle round at the entity as it darted across the distant timber line.
