#157 DEVILS CREEK ALASKA INCIDENT

An encounter shared by an Athabaskan couple, Alvin and Myrna, occurred in February 2020 while hiking the Devil's Creek Trail near the Kenai Peninsula with their nine-month-old Tibetan Mastiff, Skippy. While navigating an uphill stretch on a packed snowmachine trail, Alvin was walking slightly ahead of Myrna, who was admiring the scenery further down the path. Suddenly, a voice perfectly replicating Myrna's exact pitch and tone called out the dog's name from a thick patch of snow-covered willow shrubs directly ahead of Alvin. Hearing what it believed to be its owner's voice, the puppy eagerly bolted straight into the dense brush. As the dog lunged into the snow, it abruptly realized something was wrong and desperately tried to back up in the deep drifts. Before Alvin could react, a massive hand reached out from the thicket, grabbed the puppy by the neck, and forcefully yanked it deeper into the brush, instantly killing it. Alvin drew his firearm and sprinted up the slippery, icy path toward the thicket but was unable to catch up as the entity rapidly retreated up the mountain grade, shaking snow from the surrounding spruce trees. Distraught by the loss, Alvin made several solo trips back to the valley in the following weeks to track the creature. On his third attempt during the messy spring breakup, he spotted a large figure crouched down in the brush watching him from behind. When Alvin approached the spot, the creature retreated down toward Devil's Creek, letting out a deafening scream that echoed entirely across the valley.
