#281 TLINGIT ELDER OF THE WOLF CLAN SONNY GRANT

Sonny Grant, a Tlingit elder of the Wolf Clan from Juneau, shares deep ancestral knowledge regarding the 'Cannibal Giant'—a figure synonymous with the Sasquatch/Hairy Man. Sonny recounts stories passed down through generations in Haines, Cake, and Juneau of these entities capturing and consuming children left out past dark.

He describes a legend where warriors recovered children from a cannibal giant’s stomach, finding them alive but hairless and amnesiac. Sonny shares personal sightings from his childhood in Juneau, including an encounter on Mount Juneau and Thomas Bay, where compasses mysteriously malfunction due to high iron content.

He also details accounts from family members who witnessed Sasquatches swimming across deep fjords in the Lynn Canal and others observed snatching mountain goats from sheer slopes, snapping necks, and carrying the carcasses into the timber. Sonny explains that these creatures are recognized as intelligent, highly dangerous predators, and discusses the cultural traditions of using Sasquatch imagery in masks and carvings, emphasizing that his people have dealt with these 'cannibal giants' for thousands of years as a reality of Alaskan life, not as folklore.
