#312 GRANDPAS CABIN@ DEVILS LAKE ENCOUNTER CIRCA 2005

Stanley, an avid pilot, inherited a beautifully hand-built, profoundly remote cabin on a private body of water he renamed Devil's Lake. Accessible only by floatplane, the pristine property had been a place of whimsical childhood memories. However, upon arriving for his first solo trip in his Piper Super Cub, an intense, overwhelming feeling of dread and scrutiny washed over him as he tied the plane to the temporary dock. Armed with a shorty shotgun and a .357 magnum, he rushed toward the cabin—only to hear a sharp, crisp whoop echo from the nearby brush.

Turning toward a small island of birch and spruce trees near the cabin's windbreak, Stanley watched in horror as a massive, 12-foot-tall, pitch-black figure aggressively shook the trees back and forth. Fleeing inside, he barricaded the door and spent a terrifying, sleepless night clutching his late grandfather's .338 Win Mag rifle. In the quiet of the morning, Stanley discovered his grandfather's hidden journals, which revealed a chilling truth: the creature's harassment had only begun and rapidly escalated during the final, vulnerable years of the old man's declining health.

The next morning, Stanley frantically pumped aviation fuel into his plane to escape. As he climbed into the cockpit of the Super Cub and shut the door, he felt a massive jolt from behind as something physically grabbed and pushed the tail of the plane forward. Whipping around, he finally saw the creature up close: a hulking entity with a charcoal-gray, deeply wrinkled face, no facial hair, and piercing, luminescent golden-yellow eyes that stared right through him before squatting down into a bizarre, unnatural posture on the shoreline as he taxied away.
