A few years prior to 2023, Heather and Carl flew via floatplane from Lake Hood to a remote state park cabin at Klutina Lake near the mouth of the Mahlo River, northeast of Valdez. While exploring the marshy mouth of the river for wilderness photography, they were unsettled by a long, mournful, and sorrowful howl echoing through the tall grass. That night, while sitting outside, they observed a powerful, anomalous bright light across the lake that rapidly dimmed and performed an oblong, figure-eight tracking motion up and down the beach. The next morning at 9:00 AM, a massive physical impact violently shuddered the cabin structure.
Stepping outside, they heard a deep, booming vocalization behind the cabin that sounded like a large entity weeping in a tone reminiscent of Andre the Giant. Carl investigated with a shotgun loaded with rubber bear-bomb rounds, but the sound abruptly ceased, replaced by a cold feeling of dread. Instantly after returning inside, three massive, booming wood-knocks rattled the cabin walls. When Carl stepped out again, he witnessed a volleyball-sized orb of brilliant bluish-green light shoot away into the brush at extreme speed.
The following evening, the figure-eight light returned across the water before performing a hyper-fast zip directly across the lake channel into the trees near the Mahlo River mouth. Immediately after the couple fled inside, a heavy, rhythmic pounding erupted on the back wall of the cabin, causing the structure to violently vibrate. Carl broke out of the cabin, firing a rubber bullet into the water to break the cadence, and a second shot into the upper tree line to disperse the thrashing presence. While waiting on the beach for an early satellite-phone rescue flight the following morning, Carl returned behind the cabin to check for tracks, only for Heather to witness the bluish-green orb buzzing and zip-lining directly over Carl's head, accompanied by a persistent mechanical humming sound before it vanished into the timber.
