#35 SO MUCH FOR THAT

Inspired by legendary wilderness survivalists, Jacob set out to hand-build a remote homestead cabin near Lake Clark, north of Iliamna. What began as a peaceful five-year plan slowly unraveled over three seasons. In year three, the subtle harassment escalated into a targeted siege. After returning from a hike to find fresh, massive footprints heading directly down the trail toward his campsite, Jacob found his canvas tent smashed and his partially constructed log cabin violently twisted off its foundation. Retreating to the beach to wait for his bush plane, he finally locked onto his tormentor through a spotting scope across the lake: a towering, light charcoal-gray entity with a Cro-Magnon brow, a thick beard, and a flat, broad nose.

The standoff reached its terrifying climax that night. As Jacob sat shivering by a beach campfire, an ear-splitting scream echoed across the water, followed by a 14-foot spruce log flying out of the darkness and directly impacting his fire, scattering the burning embers into the lake. Stranded in the pitch black, Jacob endured a torturous night listening to the creatures systematically dismantle his cabin and hurl the heavy logs into the surrounding timber. At dawn, his floatplane finally arrived. The panicked pilot jumped out, urging Jacob to abandon his gear because there were massive figures lurking just over the rise. As they took off and circled back over the site, the two men looked down to see a group of four or five enormous entities standing in the open, effortlessly ripping the rest of the cabin apart.
