An encounter shared by a young man named Austin took place around late June 2023 during a camping and target shooting trip with his friends Michael and Jerry. Around 2:30 AM in the twilight of the Alaskan summer, the group was walking down a dirt access road when they heard massive brush thrashing nearby. Jerry climbed onto a large roadside rock to investigate but immediately scrambled back down in an absolute panic, stating he spotted an enormous black figure that was far too large to be a local black bear. While the pale and visibly shaken group debated their next move, the heavy thrashing continued directly behind the boulder.
As the group attempted to walk back toward their campsite, the creature began pacing them through the dense, three-to-four-foot-high vegetation. Overwhelmed by panic, Jerry fired rapid warning shots from his rifle into the air, causing the entity to momentarily bolt further down the road, crossing on all fours. When Austin and Michael retraced their steps, they watched the large silhouette move rapidly through the shrubs toward a small patch of trees. The creature then stood upright onto two legs, prompting Jerry to flee in terror directly back to the safety of Austin's Ford F-150 truck.
While Austin and Michael stood frozen, accurate rock throws struck both of them squarely in the center of their backs from across the road, accompanied by a booming, low bellowing roar. Jerry began frantically honking the truck's horn and flashing the headlights, shouting that an incredibly wide, ten-foot-tall silhouette had stood up in the gap between two nearby shrubs right next to the vehicle. The bipedal entity eventually dropped low, tore through the brush, and crossed the road on two feet to join a second vocalizing creature before the terrified group successfully packed their gear and fled the valley.
