In the winter of 1970, Thomas traveled to Kaltag along the Yukon River to help his recently widowed niece with house repairs. Hyper-vigilant from his past terrifying encounters, Thomas spent his afternoons scouting the nearby valleys on a snowmachine. His worst fears were realized when he spotted a Hairy Man sprinting up a mountain and disappearing into a cave. For weeks, he desperately tried to keep his niece’s two young children close to the house, but his refusal to explain exactly what was out in the woods caused a bitter rift between them. The tension shattered one morning when Thomas spotted a massive entity peeking from the tree line just 100 yards away, silently watching the children play in the snow.
A fatal confrontation ensued, forcing Thomas to kill the creature to protect his family. Desperate to cover his tracks and hide the massive, freezing corpse, Thomas hooked a sled to his snowmachine, grabbed his chainsaw, and made the gruesome decision to dismember the entity. After hacking off the limbs and head to throw into the creature's cave, he hauled the massive, 500-pound torso deep into the valley and dumped it in the snow. Tragically, the secrecy and trauma surrounding the horrific event permanently destroyed his relationship with his niece, who later took her own life. Decades later, Thomas passes on a final, heavy message to listeners: be honest with your loved ones before it's too late.
