Camp Site

These shares involve camp sites as the stage—tents, temporary camps, and overnight spots where the harassment is aimed at the place people bedded down.

Common threads are established camps, gear and food on the ground, and nights that turn from routine to hostile. Browse these shares if you want the camp itself as the target, not only a trail walk-by.

While investigating an active beaver dam system on the Kings River, the channel researcher and his companion, 'Squatch Bait,' documented complex engineering in the form of multiple, multi-cut tree trunks and a submerged, canopied beaver tunnel. Transitioning to a specific encounter site marked by orange surveyor tape, the researcher noted the exact location where a local witness named Daniel observed a large, dark-brown figure squatting on a log segment that jutted into the water.

On site at Eklutna Lake where Coloradans Douglas and Trina, had an encounter a few weeks ago.  While enjoying the camping, they heard a scream across the lake they thought could be a cougar, even though they thought it was too loud.  Soon after that, they heard another scream from the other direction that was moving towards them.  They quickly jumped into their kayaks and left.

Two shares, the first a retired fish and game biologist that had an experience ten years ago off the Mulchatna river while gathering data on salmon with three others, where they realized what they at first thought was a person exiting the freezing cold river was a Sasquatch they estimated to be over 10'.  They later met up with a group of observers who didn't believe them at first, but did later after they had an encounter, topped off with screams.  When both groups tried to relay their experiences to a fish and game trooper, they fell on deaf ears.

Greg, who lives in Europe, used to spend a lot of money to fly his dogs and equipment to Alaska to participate in the Iditarod.  About five years ago, while training a few months prior to the race, he and fellow team members stopped a few miles outside of Rainy Pass to camp out in an area with multiple available cabins before continuing the next day. That night, his dogs were huddled together in fear and kept moving around the cabin away from something outside.

Chad, a cyclist who'd over the years travel to Alaska for a long-distance cycling event, became a recipient of typical Alaskan Sasquatch behavior while setting up a camp to take a break during his trip a few miles north of Trapper Creek.

Mark was camping with his family off the Matanuska River back in 2020 when they heard a scream and loud splashing in the river.  After he saw it in the water, they had sunlight and used it to pack up camp and leave.  He has not camped since.

Jesse shared his encounter from May of 2022 that took place at the Granite Creek Campground on the Kenai Peninsula. Like so many who experience these encounters, his love for camping is completely ruined.

Four years after the terrifying standoff in the Tongass National Forest, Thomas traveled deep into the remote Copper River Valley to help his friend build a cabin on a Native allotment plot. The peaceful construction project took a dark turn when Thomas discovered his friend had been casually dumping food scraps behind the tree line, inadvertently feeding and habituating a local Hairy Man. Thomas immediately warned him about the extreme danger of creating dependency, but the warning came too late.

Stranded and broke on Prince of Wales Island after being denied logging work in 1961, Thomas and his two friends set up a survival camp in the towering old-growth timber of the Tongass National Forest. Their desperation deepened when a massive arm reached from behind a tree, ripped down the rope holding their freshly hunted black-tailed deer, and vanished into the 200-foot canopy above. Upon returning from a day-labor job the next evening, they found a towering entity rummaging through their camp before it effortlessly scrambled up a massive Douglas fir.

Certain that his fishing captain was just trying to prank the new guy with local tall tales, Caleb arrogantly agreed to camp out in Rainbow Valley near Aleknagik in the late 1980s. His skepticism vanished on the third morning. While brewing cowboy coffee over the fire, Caleb felt a massive presence behind him. He turned to find an enormous entity crouched on all fours just 25 feet away, staring directly into his eyes. In a state of pure shock, Caleb let out a nervous laugh—which the creature immediately mocked back at him with a terrifying, booming baritone.

Inspired by legendary wilderness survivalists, Jacob set out to hand-build a remote homestead cabin near Lake Clark, north of Iliamna. What began as a peaceful five-year plan slowly unraveled over three seasons. In year three, the subtle harassment escalated into a targeted siege. After returning from a hike to find fresh, massive footprints heading directly down the trail toward his campsite, Jacob found his canvas tent smashed and his partially constructed log cabin violently twisted off its foundation.

Back in the late 1980s, a land surveyor was hired to plot a large private subdivision in the dense wilderness just west of the Parks Highway, north of Talkeetna. Working alone with an old-school transit scope, his first morning on the job turned bizarre when he spotted a towering, neckless humanoid silhouette pacing behind the willows.

Gathered around a hunting campfire in 2005, a First Nations elder recounted a harrowing 1968 encounter west of the Kvichak River. While hiking through the sparsely wooded tundra with two friends, they spotted a dark figure darting among the black spruce. Assuming it was a fellow hunter, they called out, only to be answered by a massive Hairy Man that suddenly burst from the brush. The men immediately opened fire, sending the creature sprinting toward a nearby beaver pond, where it dove in and vanished beneath the surface.

Ron shared his experience of a terrifying encounter on a camping trip with his young daughter that occurred south of the Denali Highway. Please note, this is one of several shares where I had audio issues.

On the fourth day of a grueling Dall sheep hunt in the Brooks Range, big game guide Glenn and his client finally secured a perfect shot on a massive full-curl ram. Unfortunately, the animal's death throes sent it tumbling over the edge of the trail and deep into a craggy draw. Exhausted and losing daylight, they decided to wait until morning to recover the carcass. That night, their camp was serenaded by a bizarre, multi-octave howling that sounded entirely unnatural.
